Part 2: Michael talks with worship leader Steve
Smith about his worship song "Agnus
Dei."
Recently Brookwood Church worship leader
Steve Smith and I spent the day interviewing
Michael W. Smith, Phil Stacey, Meredith Andrews
and Matt Maher on Michael's New Hallelujah
World Tour. I'll be rolling out these video
interviews over the next few weeks. In this
week's video I chat with Michael about worship
leading.
The interviews were a last
minute opportunity,
so off we went with a camera
and a few lights
to the venue. We turned
a locker room into
a makeshift studio by stretching
a black
curtain over the lockers
and used a grungy
couch in the corner for
the interviews.
Local choirs joined forces
to back Michael
up on a few songs, and
choir members began
arriving for soundcheck.
Then after artist
meet and greets the concert
began at 7:30pm
with Matt Maher's song
"Your Grace Is
Enough" and continued
with songs from
Phil and Meredith.
After intermission, Michael started rocking
the house. He just turned 53 and was running
around the stage like a teenager. His son,
Tyler, plays the keyboard in the band.
After many artists have
reached a level of
success they lose their
passion. Not Michael
- he still has the drive
to create. He told
us he's beginning work
on his 22nd recording.
If the New Hallelujah Tour comes to your
town, I encourage you to take advantage of
this evening of great music and worship.
